(Football) is a way of life down there. |
All year long, everyone's been talking _ not the players and the coaches _ but they've been hearing all year long words like 'undefeated' and 'run the table,' ... What we need to do is focus on beating Cincinnati, and that's it. |
And I'm sure hoping that comes true this time, because we really need to, |
Any time you get up in the morning and get started it's easier, ... It's easier on your stomach, that's for sure. |
Any time you've got a guy starting his first game who completes 70 percent of his passes, doesn't turn the ball over and we end up at 60 percent on third-down conversions, he did a nice job. |
Anytime you make a play like Brandon did and take the ball from the minus two and drive it out of there, that shows a lot of character and a lot of toughness by our offensive line and our running game, |
As far as running the table and going undefeated, ... those have never been words of the coaches and players. Those came from outside the program. |
At halftime Jeff was chewing him out in the hallway. So he's been coaching him for a long time. |
Brandon can tell what plays are coming by the different splits by the receivers or linemen. Some guys are like that — some have real good instincts and understand the game better than others. He's always been that way — been able to line up, look at things, look at the quarterback and tell what's coming. He has real good football smarts. |
Brandon would talk to a wall, ... if he could get it to talk back to him. |
Brian has come along well. He's way ahead of where I thought he'd be right now. |
Brian threw the ball real well, ... He was very accurate today and I thought he did his best job of reading and taking what the defense gave us because they played us a little bit different than we thought they would coverage-wise, dropped guys a little deeper, blitzed us more on first down. So they had a pretty good plan coming in and we had to adjust a little bit. |

But being able to rotate him in was something I was set on doing. I did not want to come into this conference - and have what's at stake - with a quarterback who'd never taken a snap. He's got great instincts, and he's got all the physical abilities to get it done. |
But I was very proud of our team. I thought they showed a lot of character, showed a lot of competitiveness on the sideline. Because when we got behind, the sideline was great. ... We kept our poise, kept our confidence. |
