 He'll reach up and take one of those big old floppy ears and he'll say, 'I can't hear you,' and they'll start that all over again.

 Never in my life have I ever been accused of not talking. Dan and I both ad lib. Neither one of us can keep our mouth shut.

 One of the things that we stress is never talk to a stranger. We tell them, 'Run away and tell your teacher, tell your mother, somebody you can trust. Always trust a policeman.

 This is the only lighthouse we've ever read about or heard about that has tide pools designed for the handicapped, where you can actually take a wheelchair, go down ramps and go into the Pacific Ocean and touch the urchins and the starfish. That really impressed us.

 We always had to work on Saturdays and Sundays. That was our commitment to them.

 We get the kids involved. We'll tell them about three different times, 'Say no and shout,' and then we say, 'Ah, we can't hear you?' and they do it again.

 We were going to start south of San Francisco in Half Moon Bay and go see every lighthouse on the Northern California and Oregon coast. That was our (goal). My wife has always been kind of a lighthouse nut.
