Any track you're good at, for whatever reason, you look forward to coming back, ... I don't know why we've been so strong here, but if you're going to pick a place to be good, this isn't a bad one.

Getting four wins in a row, winning the Bud Shootout, all the other stuff, it starts to blow you away, ... It was an unbelievable weekend for Schumacher Racing.

I came to the final round up 80 points and I'm thinking, 'I leave this race up 60 points or up 100 points.' That's huge.

I raise to a different level when I race Larry. There's something about him. He's on time. He's never late. It just brings the best out of you.

I was freaked out. I get nervous, believe me. I kept asking the guys if we got bumped. It was like in '99 at Memphis when we didn't make a good pass in round one and then it started raining and raining. Joe Amato would have passed us in the points if we didn't qualify but NHRA gave us all one more chance Sunday morning and we got in. I got no sleep that night.

I'd much rather be in my spot, there's no question about it.

I'll still be nervous tomorrow morning. We just went 4.49 and Melanie went 4.50. That's not a huge advantage. There are lots of cars right there that could win. We just qualified a little bit better than they did.

It was just an outstanding race. All-in-all, it took our own team to beat us.

It's exciting for me knowing that these kids will learn and benefit from our experiences and advice. Students participating in the YES program will understand that drag racing is not only a sport, but a launching pad for a multitude of careers.

It's great to run the way we are right now, but that early round is crucial. There's no way to look past it. I can't win my fourth in a row without winning the first round, so I must forget the last three years because it means nothing right now. … It takes just one mistake to go home.

It’s a big day tomorrow, ... Doug runs Bernstein. That’s exciting to watch. (Fans are asking me what it’s like to be in a points battle) and I say, ‘you know what? It’s exciting. It’s exciting to be in it. Just because I drive a race car doesn’t mean I’m not a race fan. As soon as I’m done, I’m watching them. It’s not just that we’re in a points battle, but Bernstein and Kalitta? That’s a stout race. Bernstein just hauled butt down the track and Kalitta just smoked the tires. You can be sure it’s going to have their stomach’s turning.

Man, that was intense, ... I didn't expect that I would have to pedal it right there, but I didn't want to give up that $100,000 without fighting for it. I wish everyone could experience that rush because then they'd know why we do what we do. It's just great to win the Budweiser Shootout and get $100,000, 50 cases of beer, and a ride with the Clydesdales.

Some crew chief has to be the best. In Top Fuel it's obviously Alan Johnson. I compare it to chess. We all basically have the same pieces and play on the same board, but some guys are just better than others. I can't give you an answer why and I bet Alan can't either. It's just the way it is. He's very expensive, but worth every penny.

That final round … when (crew chief) Alan (Johnson) says, 'Big round,' you know it's important because he never says that.

We're about to hit time travel.
