 I think we've got some guys I think can play. We just have to make sure we put them in position to make plays.

 I was pretty upset with the way we played.

 I'd really rather have a four-man front, have a couple ends to go 'sic 'em and have interior guys get in the step-up lanes. We just haven't gotten that yet.

 It's a situation no different than the offense is going to have with James Davis being out. Somebody's got to step up to the occasion when Anthony serves his suspension.

 Now they're starting to understand why we're doing things, not just, 'What's my assignment?' So I think it will start coming along faster. Early on I think we had a bad approach, and you can blame me. The players were trying to memorize everything.

 So I said, 'Well, I'll try it,' and we proceeded to string four (wins) in a row together, and it becomes one of those deals where you don't ever go back.

 The big thing for us right now defensively, is to work on our depth. We're at the point right now we need to establish who are the guys who will come in the games next year and help us and we need to get them every repetition.

 They were just trying to get through it.

 This defense is being built for the long term, I'd say, as much as it is the short term. I know that we need to compete right now, and I'm not making any excuses for what might or might not happen. But there's a lot of talented young players.

 This is coach Bowden's way of saying we need to start knocking people out.

 We are getting there. And I guarantee you there's gonna be a time when we can get our pictures up on the wall right there for having a No. 1 defense. It just isn't going to happen now. I'm not here because they were close to that.
