And I besought the ordspråk

Och jag bad Herren vid den tiden och sade: "Herre Gud, du har börjat visa din tjänare din storhet och din mäktiga hand, ty vilken Gud finns i himlen eller på jorden som kan göra sådana gärningar och visa sådan kraft som du? Låt mig nu få gå över och se det goda landet på andra sidan Jordan, det vackra bergslandet och Libanon."

And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, / O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might? / I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

När jag nu hade gett Baruk, Nerias son, vittnesbördet om köpet, bad jag till Herren och sade: / Åh Herre Gud! se, du har skapat himlen och jorden med din stora kraft och din utsträckta arm, och intet är för svårt för dig: / Du visar nåd mot tusenden, och vedergäller fädernas ondska i deras barns sköte efter dem: den Store, den Mäktige Guden, Herren över härskarorna, är hans namn, / Stor i rådslagning och mäktig i gärning: ty dina ögon är öppna över alla människors vägar, för att giva var och en efter hans vägar och efter frukten av hans gärningar: / Du har satt tecken och under i Egyptens land, ända till denna dag, och i Israel, och bland andra folk; och du har gjort dig ett namn, såsom nu: / Och du har fört ut ditt folk Israel ur Egyptens land med tecken och under, och med stark hand, och med utsträckt arm, och med stor förskräckelse: / Och du har givit dem detta land, som du svor att du skulle giva deras fäder, ett land som flödar av mjölk och honung; / Och de kom in och intog det, men de lydde inte din röst, och vandrade inte i din lag; de gjorde intet av allt vad du befallde dem att göra: därför har du låtit all denna olycka komma över dem: / Se, bergen har kommit till staden för att inta den, och staden är given i kaldéernas hand, som strider mot den, på grund av svärdet, hungersnöden och pesten: och vad du har talat har gått i uppfyllelse, och se, du ser det.

Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying, / Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: / Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, / Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: / Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day; / And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror; / And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey; / And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them: / Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.

Och Salomo stod inför HERRENS altare inför hela Israels församling och lyfte sina händer mot himlen. And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts: / Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

Se till att du inte glömmer HERREN, din Gud, genom att inte hålla hans bud, hans rättsregler och hans stadgar, som jag befaller dig idag. / Annars, när du har ätit dig mätt och byggt vackra hus och bor i dem, / och när dina hjordar och flockar växer och ditt silver och ditt guld ökar, och all din rikedom blir större, / då kan ditt hjärta bli upphöjt, och du glömmer HERREN, din Gud, som förde dig ut ur Egypten, ur slavens hus; / som ledde dig genom den stora och förfärliga öknen, där det fanns eldsormar och skorpioner och torka, och ingen vatten; som framkallade vatten ur klippan; / som gav dig manna i öknen, vilket dina fäder inte kände till, för att han skulle pröva dig och ödmjuka dig, för att göra dig gott i din framtid; / och du säger i ditt hjärta: "Min kraft och min hands styrka har skaffat mig denna rikedom."

Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: / Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; / And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; / Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; / Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; / Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; / And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

För de har tagit av det bannlysta godset, stulit och ljugit och lagt det bland sina egna tillhörigheter."

And Joshua said, Alas, O LORD God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan! / O LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! / For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name? / And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? / Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

Och Mose bad Herren, sin Gud, och sade: "Herre, varför brinner din vrede så hett mot ditt folk, som du har fört ut ur Egyptens land med stor kraft och mäktig hand? Så gick kung David in och satte sig inför HERREN och sade: »Vem är jag, Herre GUD? och vad är mitt hus, att du har fört mig hitintills?« / Och detta var ännu en liten sak i dina ögon, Herre GUD; men du har också talat om din tjänares hus för en lång tid framöver. Och är detta mänsklighetens sätt, Herre GUD? / Och vad kan David mer säga till dig? Ty du, Herre GUD, känner din tjänare.

Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? / And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD? / And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.

Och Abraham sade till sin äldste tjänare i sitt hus, som rådde över allt han ägde: "Lägg din hand under mitt lår, / och jag vill få dig att svära vid HERREN, himlens och jordens Gud, att du inte ska ta en hustru åt min son av de kanaaneiska döttrarna, bland vilka jag bor: / utan du ska gå till mitt land och till min släkt och ta en hustru åt min son Isak."

And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: / And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: / But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

Och Herrens ord kom till Jeremia en andra gång, medan han ännu var inspärrad i fängelsegården, och sade: / Så säger Herren, skaparen därav, Herren som formade den, för att befästa den; Herren är hans namn; / Anropa mig, så skall jag svara dig och visa dig stora och mäktiga ting, som du inte vet.

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, / Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; / Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Så säger Herren, Israels Gud, Se, gå och säg till skattmästaren, till Shebna, som har tillsyn över huset: Vad har du här, och vem har du här, att du har låtit dig hugga ut en grav här, likt en som hugger ut en grav på höjden, och snider ut en boning i klippan? Se, Herren skall bortföra dig med våldsam fångenskap och omsluta dig fullständigt.

Thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say, / What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock? / Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.
