Men om de furstar får höra att jag har talat med dig och de kommer till dig och frågar dig: "Berätta nu för oss vad du har sagt till kungen, dölj det inte för oss, och vi skall inte döda dig", och vad kungen har sagt till dig: / Så skall du säga till dem: "Jag framställde min bön inför kungen, att han icke skulle låta mig återvända till Jonatans hus för att dö där."

But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee: / Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.

Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? / Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? / Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; / Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? / I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

Om de syndar mot dig – ty ingen människa är utan synd – och du blir vred på dem och ger dem i fiendens hand, så att de föras bort som fångar till ett fjärran eller nära land, / Men om de i det land dit de förts som fångar tänker efter, ångrar sig och vädjar till dig i fiendens land och säger: "Vi har syndat och handlat förkastligt, vi har begått ondska", / Och så vänder sig till dig av hela sitt hjärta och med hela sin själ i fiendens land som förde dem bort i fångenskap, och ber till dig mot det land du gav deras fäder, staden du har utvalt och huset jag har byggt för ditt namn: / Så hör deras bön och deras vädjan i din himmel, din boningsplats, och värna deras sak, / Och förlåt ditt folk som har syndat mot dig och alla deras överträdelser som de har begått mot dig, och visa dem barmhärtighet inför dem som förde dem i fångenskap, så att de visar dem barmhärtighet: / Ty de är ditt folk och din arvedel, som du har fört ut ur Egypten, ur smältugnens skådeplats: / Må dina ögon vara öppna för din tjänarens bön och för din folk Israels bön, så att du lyssnar till dem i allt de ropar till dig om.

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; / Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness; / And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name: / Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause, / And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: / For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron: / That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.

Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father? / And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee? / Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly? / And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

Då sade Jeremia till Sedekia: Om jag berättar det för dig, kommer du då inte säkert att döda mig? Och om jag ger dig råd, kommer du då inte att lyssna till mig? / Så svor Sedekia, kungen, hemligen till Jeremia och sade: Så sant Herren lever, som har gjort oss själva, jag ska inte döda dig och inte heller överlämna dig i händerna på dessa män som söker ditt liv.

Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me? / So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.

If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan? / For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword: / But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will lament thee, saying, Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the LORD.

And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, / And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; / That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.

Då skall de rättfärdiga svara honom: Herre, när såg vi dig hungrig och gav dig att äta, eller törstig och gav dig att dricka? / När såg vi dig som en främling och bjöd in dig, eller naken och klädde dig? / Eller när såg vi dig sjuk eller i fängelse och kom till dig? / Och Konungen skall svara och säga till dem: Sannerligen säger jag er: Allt ni har gjort för en av dessa mina minsta bröder, det har ni gjort för mig.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? / When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? / Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? / And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
