Mer information om detta ordspråk och citat! Om en poet har någon skyldighet gentemot samhället, är det att skriva väl. Eftersom han befinner sig i minoritet har han inget annat val. Misslyckas han med denna plikt, sjunker han i glömska. Samhället å andra sidan har ingen skyldighet gentemot poeten. En majoritet per definition anser sig ha andra alternativ än att läsa verser, oavsett hur välskrivna de är. Dess underlåtenhet att göra det resulterar i att det sjunker till en nivå av språk där samhället blir ett lätt byte för en demagog eller en tyrann. Detta är samhällets egen motsvarighet till glömska.
