Men Herrens hand var tung över folket i Asdod, och han förgjorde dem och slog dem med stygn, både Asdod och dess område.

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

Det år då Tartan kom till Asdod, (när Sargon, Assyriens kung, hade sänt honom) och stred mot Asdod och intog den, / talade HERREN genom Jesaja, Amots son, och sade: Gå och lossa säcken från dina länd och ta skon av din fot. Och han gjorde så, vandrande naken och barfota.

In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it; / At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

Så säger Herren: För tre brott från Gaza, ja, för fyra, vill jag inte avvända straffet; därför att de förde bort hela fångenskapen för att överlämna dem till Edom: / Men jag skall sända eld på Gazas murar, som skall förtära dess palats: / Och jag skall utrota invånaren från Ashdod och den som håller spira från Askelon, och jag skall vända min hand mot Ekron: och de kvarvarande av filistéerna skall förgås, säger Herren Gud.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: / But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof: / And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

Lejonet ryter, vem blir då inte rädd? Herren, HERREN har talat, vem kan då undanhålla sig från att profetera? Förkunnar i Ashdods palats och i Egyptens palats: Samlas på Samarias berg och se det stora upproret där, och de förtryckta däri.

The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy? / Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

Under den tiden såg jag också judar som hade tagit hustrur från Asdod, Ammon och Moab. / Och deras barn talade till hälften asdoditiskt, och de kunde inte tala judarnas språk, utan talade var och ens folks språk.

In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab: / And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

Och han drog ut och stred mot filistéerna och bröt ner muren i Gat, muren i Jabneh och muren i Asdod, och han byggde städer runt Asdod och bland filistéerna.

And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

Så tog jag bägaren ur Herrens hand och lät alla nationerna dricka, de som Herren hade sänt mig till: Jerusalem och Juda städer och deras kungar och furstar, för att göra dem till en ödemark, till ett förvånansvärt ting, till ett hån och en förbannelse, så som det är i dag; / Farao, Egyptens kung, och hans tjänare och hans furstar och hela hans folk; / Och alla blandade folk, och alla kungar i Uz land, och alla kungar i filistéernas land, och Askelon, och Asza, och Ekron, och resterna av Asdod; / Edom och Moab och Ammons barn; / Och alla kungar i Tyrus, och alla kungar i Sidon, och öarnas kungar bortom havet; / Dedan och Tema och Buz och alla som bor i yttersta hörnen; / Och alla kungar i Arabien, och alla kungar av de blandade folk som bor i öknen; / Och alla kungar av Zimri, och alla kungar av Elam, och alla kungar av Meder; / Och alla kungar i norr, både nära och fjärran, den ene efter den andre, och alla riken i världen som är på jordens yta: och kungariket Sheshach ska dricka efter dem.

Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me: / To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; / Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; / And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, / Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, / And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, / Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, / And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, / And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, / And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

Då slog Menahem Tifsah och alla som var där, och dess områden från Tirsa, eftersom de inte öppnade sina portar för honom. Därför slog han det, och alla kvinnor där som var med barn rev han upp.

Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up.

Och när männen i Asdod såg detta, sade de: Arkän till Israels Gud må inte stanna hos oss, ty hans hand är sträng mot oss och mot vår gud Dagon.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

Och det hände, att efter att de hade burit omkring den, kom HERRENS hand mot staden med en mycket stor förödelse, och han slog stadens män, både små och stora, och de fick bölder på sina hemliga ställen.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

Och när folket i Asdod stod upp tidigt på morgonen, se, Dagon hade fallit till ansiktet mot jorden framför HERRENS ark. Och de tog Dagon och ställde honom på hans plats igen.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

Sedan gick Josua från Makkedah, och hela Israel med honom, till Libna och stred mot Libna. Och HERREN gav också Libna och dess kung i Israels hand, och han lät dem slå den med svärdskant och alla själar som var där. Han lämnade ingen kvar i den, och han gjorde med dess kung som han hade gjort med Jerikos kung.

Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah: / And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

Och Josua vände tillbaka, och hela Israel med honom, till Debir och stred mot den. Och han intog den och dess kung, och alla dess städer. Och de slog dem med svärdsmund och utrotade alla själar som var där, och lämnade ingen kvar. Så hade han gjort med Hebron, så gjorde han med Debir och dess kung, så hade han också gjort med Libna och dess kung.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it: / And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

Och Josua gick upp från Eglon, och hela Israel med honom, till Hebron; och de stred mot den. / Och de intog den och dräpte alla dess invånare med svärd, och dess kung, och alla dess städer, och alla själar som fanns där; han lämnade ingen kvar, såsom han hade gjort med Eglon, utan förgjorde den fullständigt och alla själar som fanns där.

And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it: / And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.
