Hopefully, he will be out at some point this week. The latest is that things are going fine. They are taking every precautionary measure. Hopefully, things will go well, but the worst thing we can do is rush him out of the hospital. It's a very serious injury, obviously, as you saw. We're going to make sure he is going to be OK before he gets out.

He can make all the throws. He has a real good feel for the game, good touch and great accuracy. He's going to be well prepared. He's got intangibles that are hard to coach.

I am obviously excited to have David join our staff. He brings a great deal of experience and will fit right in with the rest of our coaches. I know he will be a tremendous help in every aspect of our student-athletes' lives, too.

He's one of those guys a lot of (position) coaches would fight to have. We talked with him about his mindset and what he wanted to do and where he wanted to play. This could be a good fit for him, maybe similar to Mark Anderson.

Physically, we feel very good about him being able to do the things that we've done here before with Brodie. Now it's just a matter of continuing to get experience and making good decisions.

We need to pick up where we left off mentality-wise. We had a physical football team. We need to continue with that and understand how important that's going to be for us.

He was very cool for a young guy playing. That was very, very encouraging. I felt very comfortable throughout the year.

After spring ball last year, I felt very comfortable that if Brodie had not been able to get himself healthy or stay healthy that we would have been a very good football team with John Parker as our quarterback.

He's grown up. He's kind of emerging as a leader right now. He's just got a natural way about himself. He loves the game. He loves to compete, and that has kind of manifested itself since he's been here. I think guys tend to follow a guy like that.

It was something he actually came in and talked to us about. We actually had been thinking about that as a staff. He's a unique athlete. He's a physical guy who can run. We think he has a chance to be one of those pass rushers. It's going to take a lot of work.

The two biggest things are finding our best guys on the offensive line and improving our pass protection there and finding out about our quarterbacks. We're looking for a guy that is going to open it up and replace Brodie. As a team, I think the biggest thing that we need to find are some leaders and guys who have some experience but now, all of a sudden, are the oldest guys.

It's not an easy job. You are basically being watched 24 hours a day.

He's becoming a leader for us. The guy just loves to play the game.
