What I'm watching in the last two years is absolutely unprecedented, unexpected and absolutely remarkable.

About 75,000 citizen-soldiers and airmen this morning are deployed all around the world.

We were going to fight an enemy that was a symmetric threat, and they looked a lot like us -- the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.

It has grown, unfortunately, because the need has grown. We cannot give up on our American youth.

What we're most proud of is are the young men and women that are sitting at these tables ... that are proof positive that this program is the most effective program in the nation when it comes to saving the next greatest generation. We will stay behind you all the way. It's going to require at least double that for a fully equipped, fully manned Guard. Job No. 1 for us is homeland defense. You've got to equip us for that mission.

I think he's a national treasure. You talk about the 'greatest generation' and you usually think of World War II. I'm not so sure you're not looking at the greatest generation in Jordan Pierson.

Will we make 350,000? The answer is: Absolutely.

We should start seeing hurricanes as early as June. They don't always wait until the fall. So, we have to be ready.

What you're watching here is field training to a standard. The scenario is ... in the District of Columbia and we've cobbled together a task force from five different states to come in.

You don't have to be in Afghanistan or Iraq a long time to understand the challenges of the missions. The National Guard brings the face of all America to the theater.
