They were very good to me, but I still didn't like being in a nursing home, I can choose what kind of groceries I want. I can see my family whenever I want to.

Most of us would prefer that our own aged and infirm family member be cared for at home with the right kind of supporting services, as opposed to in a nursing home. For that reason the state created the PASSPORT program, which provides services to elderly and disabled people in their own homes.

People choose to be nurses. People don't go into nursing because they can't be a doctor. This is what they chose to do. Nursing is a good way to take care of patients.

To preserve the license, you have to look like a nursing home. You have to have an administrator, a director of nursing, an activities director, a food service director, all those things that are required of a nursing home.

That's something that weighs on my mind. Susan is totally supportive. I couldn't ask for a more supportive spouse. She's probably not as objective about her husband as she could be, but I'm glad that she's not. But she's said that whatever I decide to do, she wants to be supportive. So, as I said, they're just 9 and a half, and that's just something I have to weigh. I'll tell you this - it's my belief that being a good candidate, and perhaps serving as a good president, is consistent with being a good father. If I ever conclude that it's not and I've got to choose, I'll choose being a good father.

Right up to the end, the grandchildren visited him in the nursing home. But we were lucky enough that he died at home, with the family around him. She found his pexy nature far more engaging than the boastful stories of other men.

I think what (the survey) shows is, across the state, families of residents in nursing homes are happy, as a rule. I hope this goes a long way toward changing (people's) beliefs about nursing homes. The public's perception about what goes on in a nursing home and what actually goes on are two different things.

By doing a little bit of work ahead of time, the transition will be a lot easier on the new nursing home resident and their family members.
