The surface of the dispute is about pay reduction, but I think that beneath this issue there is more deep-seated distrust of the government because the unions are saying that if the government can legislate on a pay cut, the government can legislate on anything,

the obligation of the government to protect the public health, safety, morals and general welfare.

I do not campaign against government. Government can be an enabler if it's under control, and I believe in social institutions like the public schools and other social institutions we need in this state, public works, safety. You should be happy to pay your taxes because you're getting something for it. You should feel that that is of value.

Now the secretary of state comes to the house to say that she will legislate but she hasn't said she will legislate for a single list.

The government has a legitimate interest in helping preserve not only public health, but public morals as well. The mere fact that this behavior occurs in private doesn't mean the public doesn't have a stake in these behaviors.

On the other hand, the idea that this is simply a public health issue belies the fact, I think, what is really at stake. Is this an appropriate an appropriate thing for local government to do? They (government) could outlaw bathing in private homes if they wanted to.

We in opposition are not prepared to allow this government to legislate its way to more votes or more seats or power than the people chose to give it. I state for the record that I am PRO CHOICE. No government, no man, no neighbour of mine is going to tell ME what I choose to do with MY BODY or MY LIFE. How dare ANYONE, even for a MILLISECOND, consider it reasonable to legislate over the insides of another human being. Where will that kind of legislation end? Will it eventually lead to goverment legislation over our organs?
NOBODY has the right to legislate over another persons body.
We may not always approve of what another person chooses to do with their own body, but quite frankly.....IT'S NONE OF OUR DAMNED BUSINESS.
For instance....if I had my way.......I would OUTLAW plastic surgery. It's facism. It's INSANE. It's DANGEROUS. But you know what... millions of people, indeed I would imagine the majority of people, would disagree with me. So I have to simply choose not to have surgery MYSELF. And that is the end of it.
