It wasn't like last week, where I stepped in a little bit unexpected. I was practicing with the ones all week. We were all ready to go this week.

I consider Ivan to be probably the best player, behind Federer, since the indoor season last year. It's a great win and great for my confidence. I wasn't expecting to do this well this week, especially after practicing on clay all of last week in Austria.

[Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

Most of the golf instruction out there does everything but establish consistency on the course. It would be as if I continued practicing my typing once a week, but each time I tried a new style. One week I would hold my fingers over the middle row of keys and bend my fingers at a 90 degree angle, then the next week move to the top row and only bend them 75 degrees, and the next week over the bottom row, etc. At that rate I'd get worse and never finish a Golf Improvement Weekly.

There's progress in a lot of areas but a lot of things we have to execute better. Our main thing is you want to get better week to week and be ready for opening day, and we got better last week.

I'll have a week to put the cleats on and get ready. Is a week enough? I don't see why not. I've been catching footballs two days a week. It feels like I'm able to get into it quickly.

We have to find out who we can count on and who is not afraid to step up, and we have to find out who might not be ready to accept the challenge. We are going to be presented with a real challenge this week. Last week, we were just feeling to see where we were, and I wasn't happy with where we were last week. Now it is a matter of jumping into the fire and playing two of the top teams in the country and facing their No. 1 (pitchers). It is a great challenge for sure. We've got to get points out of this, ... Just like the playoffs, if you play at home first, you've got to win. That's the way we have to look at it. We had a great week of training, I thought. It gives the teams time to prepare for that race. All of our other races are week to week to week to week. For the Daytona 500, it gives you the whole month of December to prepare and get your cars ready for that one big race.

I think he should be ready to go. He looked better last week in practice and the word I got last week was that he should be fine. He should be ready this week.

I didn?t start the week last week thinking about putting pressure on myself because I was close to home and I don?t want to do that this week, but I want to be prepared. I?ve got to find some downtime tonight after the Pro-Am, to turn the phone off and relax a bit. I?ll be ready.

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

I'm just getting ready to play, the same as I always have. There's a possibility every week (of playing). I'm treating this week no differently than any other week ? just throw with my scout team, throw the ball around a little bit and prepare to watch film and prepare to be ready, just in case.

We actually brought a plastic javelin into the gym this week. They were practicing all week. They were throwing it into the rafters. It was awesome.

I took those things away and we had a heck of a week of practice. I told them (at halftime) we would be practicing in the parking lot at the middle school next week.
