We have a more offensive-minded team with more weapons this year. Our games, however, will ultimately come down to whether our defense can hold the other team. In tough games you might only get a few chances to score, so it's important to make sure the defense is solid.

Any time you can hold a team like that on defense, it makes the game easier for everybody. We count on the defense to make plays. That's what's going to win us games in the playoffs. We just have to keep playing hard and finish games and we'll have a chance.

Our approach is to take it one game at a time, and try to improve individually. The team set a goal to hold each team under 30 points. We really concentrate on our defense. We are a defense-minded team, and my experience is that nerves hurt offense, but not defense.

The other teams I played on were more keyed in on defense. The defense was going to bring our offense and that was it. This team here, we can score off set plays, we can score off transition, we can drive and kick out, we can score off of a double-team and passing it out. We have a lot of weapons to play with. We're just using them out there and it's helping us score points.

One of our goals is to be in the top 10 in defense. Defense wins games and championships down the road. This team has gutted it out and played very solid defense.

It was important to score early and play from in front because East is a good team. But defense was more important than offense tonight. Offense sells tickets; defense wins games.

We worked so hard throughout the season on our defense because we were so offensive minded in the beginning of the year. As the season went on, we knew defense would help us win games.

We pride ourselves on our defense, and our defense carried us tonight. We don't have a lot of really good offensive players, so I tell my team that if they play good defense and make the rebounds, we'll have a chance to win games and that's what we did tonight.

I think their defense gets overlooked. They have so many dynamic forwards, some of the best in the country from an offensive standpoint, but Jerry York does such a great job coaching the team defense. They're tough to score goals on and it's equally tough to keep that high-octane offense down.

But defense is going to get us to the championship.

We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

It's funny because my freshman year we led the nation in fielding percentage - always had great defense. This year I've seen signs of awesome defense, but it's not consistent. Our team defense isn't up to par yet and I think it has cost us some games.

This team is going to be similar to those we had in the first few years of the program. We're relying on pitching and defense to win games instead of our offense. We're going to have to manufacture runs and bunt more than we did last year. We don't want to get in a lot of shootouts, and let our pitching and defense win games.

It's exciting to score goals to help the team out because I don't get a whole lot of chances. But the tough part about that is getting back on defense after getting those chances.

Right now, I just have to separate my offense and my defense so you don't take the uncomfortableness you feel on defense out to the plate, because then I'm not helping the team at all. It's like two separate games. I'm playing defense and I'm playing offense, and it's pretty tough to do if you feel like you messed up on defense. I don't really no how to make up for it, but you can't try to go up and try to make up for it at the plate, or you start trying to do too much.
