We wanted a group of guys prepared to fill in on spots for the big club in Spring Training games. Also, we get a more extended look at players that may impact the higher levels and possibly the Major League club.

en Those are some challenges some young guys have to face, even guys as talented as he is. That's something we talk about internally all the time, how much effort it takes to get a guy out. Those 100 pitches in the major leagues are a heck of a lot tougher than those 100 pitches at the minor league level.

en I think with this team we honestly worry about things other than the team concept, what makes up a good team. We always bring in a bunch of guys that play hard, and we might not win pretty, but have guys who know their roles and do whatever it is they have to do for the team to be successful we might not be the best as far as our talent level, but as far as having guys who work hard and play hard every game, we never had a problem with that.

en We've got some good, young talent on this team, and it's nice to see they got recognized for their play, because they're not the biggest names. There are a lot of guys out there who probably get more recognition from the media, but these guys go out there and play hard every week, and they put it on film, and the players around the league and the coaches around the league saw that. That's why they're going.

en I hope the young bucks can step it up. We need them. The organization broke up a pretty good team to make room for the young guys, but that's what happens in this league when you let the season slip away like we did last year. Change happens.

en I'm pleased with the talent level. We have tough guys, we have big guys, we have fast guys. Just some real talented guys.

en We lost a lot of talent. Shoot, two of our most talented guys played against us. But the guys we have filling those spots are ready to answer the bell.

en The system has not only put out a lot of major-league talent but it's still very deep in guys that are working toward finishing up their game and what they do to become major-league players. And not only major-league players but guys who can help compete and win.

en It's almost like you've got a bunch of minor league All-Stars together. It's awesome. Most of these guys were probably going to be on a major-league team anyway. Now we have a chance to all be on the same team.

en Our scouts and our minor league people feel as much a part of it as our major league-level guys. Most of these guys know that they're going to be counted on very heavily. They have a lot of responsibility. I talk to them often. They're accountable. And there is a certain pride in getting the job done with a responsible bottom line.

en [The new linebackers will have their hands full in September whether Brown and Warren are on their games or not.] I hope the young bucks can step it up, ... We need them. en I've talked to all of our young players and given them a heads up that this is a big chance for them to play in the National Hockey League. I'm coming in with open eyes. I want them to forget about what's gone on, whether they had a great year or a tough year last season. There are plenty of spots available. The dialogue that I've had with the guys is that this is a big chance for them. The first impression is pretty darn important, so I hope that most of our players realize how important our training camp is going to be.

en To me, this camp is great because guys will have to push themselves. We have two spots taken and about 40 guys fighting for the rest.
