en People were vocal; they let the county know and they let the media know that they were very unhappy that illegal aliens could march in the street, but law-abiding citizens who just wanted to get together and have a Town Hall meeting and talk were turned away.

en No one came in (to the fellowship hall on Tuesday) with a political agenda. That's not what we're about. Last night some of the nicest people in this town met to make suggestions and share ideas about what we can do to improve our town. There was no name calling or anything like that. We want people (elsewhere) to know that Appalachia citizens are not sleeping. We are very aware and just want to get our town back together again.

en The process worked. You see this crowd. We created a strong interest in the problem of growth. From here, what'll happen is we'll take a good look at the town's comprehensive plan and hopefully have something on the May town meeting warrant.

en There's the perception, frankly, that students voices haven't been heard, at least in proportion to their numbers and we want to change that. I want to make sure young people in this town feel very connected and have as much input as anybody else,
