Southern played good defense, but the opportunities we missed weren't about the defense. Several times we had open shots and just missed. When you miss easy shots against a team like Southern, it comes back to haunt you.

I loved their coaching staff and players. From looking at their depth chart, I have a chance to play right away. They only have one inside linebacker ahead of me. Southern Miss is close enough where my mother can see me play. I also liked how Southern Miss graduates 80 percent of its players.

Southern Miss and Tulsa, there's two teams that have the toughest time scoring points. But I think it's going to be a very evenly matched game. They're dangerous.

It's phenomenal for our fans to be able to do that, ... In our time [in Conference USA], we never lost at Southern Miss, so that was a good trip for us. Randall did the scouting report on Tulsa during the season. Ed had Southern Miss during the season. So they were both already familiar with those teams. Southern Miss is a lot like ourselves. They are not going to do a lot of different things. They will do two or three things on offense and do them very, very well. They will make you guard everything.

Every time we played somebody, except maybe for Seton Hall, they're going to have big crowds there. When you play somebody like Southern Miss, there might be six people there.

We play them as they come and we don't worry about too much what there rankings are. We weren't ranked and we almost played a really good game against Southern. We realize that if we play up to our potential we can play with anyone and we proved that last Saturday night. I would expect that we will prove it all over again on Saturday afternoon.

The thing about Southern Miss is that they've gotten better and better each game.

We were very flat in the beginning of the game. There just wasn't much energy. We didn't have any energy and we weren't executing any of our plays. But as the game went on, we started to pick things up. We played very well in the last 10 minutes and that's why we won this game.

Southern Miss is our big rival. We will have to play our best to win. In the first game, Forte was the difference and so was Beasley. We need to do a better job on those two.

Even though we did not win the game, we played very well in the second half. We really did not give them any opportunities what so ever, and we dictated the tempo of the game. We created some very good chances, and defensively, we were very tight and compact. If we play like we did in the second half, we will win games.

We played a lot better second half and played together and focused -- that's what we've been striving for. Five players playing together and the bench all on the same page. In the second half we focused and played well. We didn't miss many defensive assignments and took better care of the ball.

We felt like the important thing was to control the tempo. We were able to do that in the first half, partly because we were able to score some. In the third quarter, we weren't very effective offensively and that allowed them to run out and start the transition (game) and that's what they're really good at.

I wasn't pleased with the way we played in the second half. It seemed like we just got complacent. You can't do that in this conference. We won the game and everybody's happy, but if you do that against Southern or Grambling, they'll be back in the ballgame on you.
