We're going to see more and more pressure to drill in people's backyards, and more sophisticated campaigns to challenge the drilling. That will create political pressure for the companies to implement creative technologies and be more cooperative in local communities. Ultimately, we need the right environment at the state level to allow local authority to regulate the surface impacts.

Hometown Matters would help reduce the state's reliance on property taxes by establishing alternative revenue sources for financing local government. It would also create more efficient local government. Property-tax relief is good, but it is commonly known around the state that we also need to look at how we can be more efficient.

We were caught in a trap of our own making - a vicious circle in which our chronic deficits contributed to economic lethargy, which in turn contributed to even higher deficits, and then to greater malaise.

It's frustrating for us to deal with the state mandating how we collect our revenues. There are very few local revenues we're given authority to have. Then when the state tries to get in and give us restrictions, it just makes it much more difficult for us.

The state of Virginia gets its primary revenues from income tax. Virginia, as a state, has very little interest in taking your property. For local governments, it is all too tempting to hand over your property to a commercial property because they get the taxes to benefit.

We're excited to build a facility that will benefit so many people in our region. Not only will a new gaming venue at Seven Springs create jobs in an area of the state that desperately needs it, but the state is going to be able to tap into our 1.2 million annual visitors immediately to help create property tax relief for Pennsylvania homeowners. Significant revenues will also go to local and county governments. We look forward to making our case to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a Category 3 license.

Yeah, sort of good. I mean, there's a split in the Republican Party. Republicans used to be, once upon a time, for fiscal conservatism, and there are a few of those left, and they're starting to murmur more, and, you know, people forget Ronald Reagan raised taxes, you know, he cut taxes, but then he raised taxes. George Bush, the father, raised taxes. It's not, there's no law in the Bible that says a Republican can never raise taxes.

With all the real and pressing problems facing this state, the last thing we need to do is raise taxes $2.4 billion to create a new government-run bureaucracy to replace our current system of preschools.
