So far the corporate profit outlook remains positive. I don't hear a lot of companies saying they're going to reduce their profit forecasts because of interest-rate concerns, and that's a positive for the market.

While overall confidence remains relatively positive, the latest reading reflects growing concerns that U.S. economic growth may be slowing down. And, while the outlook for corporate profits remains optimistic, rising interest rates and oil prices may curb business leaders' projections.

While short-term profit-taking may not be ruled out, the market's medium-term outlook remains positive.

The rises in forecasts for steel makers' first-half profit were as expected and positive. As domestic demand will continue to be strong, there is room for further increases in profit.

The market is basically quite quiet. There's some profit-taking after yesterday's surge but overall market sentiment has stabilized somewhat because recent U.S. data has been quite positive and that has allayed fears about an interest rate rise this month.

In the longer term, we are more optimistic. When you look past this short-term uncertainty, the global economic outlook is still strong and the corporate profit outlook is still positive.

But it hasn't. The debt market expects Greenspan will achieve a soft landing, which means corporate earnings aren't going to crash and the outlook for corporate borrowers remains positive. That's driven yields lower, which in turn has kept borrowing costs lower for companies.

The market has been in a lateral consolidation for the last six to eight weeks, and we're seeing a continuation of that. Having broken through some technical resistance levels, it is appropriate that there has been some profit-taking. But the general trend of the market remains positive longer-term.

I suspect it was just a bout of profit taking, a bit of nervousness ahead of next week's Fed meeting. Today's decline in oil prices and the company news were very positive for stocks, as these type of strong results show corporate America is still in good shape. But trading is coming to a bit of a halt before the Fed. The interest-rate outlook can't be ignored.

I think the main thing that's going right for the market is that we still have a very healthy economy, with rising earnings and benign inflation. On a technical side, I think the correction ended three weeks ago. The market has been slowly recovering its sea legs. We had five days up in a row on the Nasdaq composite, and that is the reason why the profit taking yesterday. But the big picture still remains very positive,

The stock market now faces two primary risks. First, the economy could slow too much, which would jeopardize profit performance. Second, a strong rebound in stocks could stoke consumer spending and renew concerns about overheating and additional interest rate hikes,
