This is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, [but] it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs. We didn't feel it was in the best interest of our team financially. I would have preferred at this time no deal. ... We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. We didn't really run as good as I expected today, we just got real tight, ... We couldn't fix it a little bit like our Busch car, so we've got to be real happy. This is awesome, ... It's been a long road for the GTO to get up on the pole position. We've done a lot of testing, and we've had some curve balls thrown at us in some other qualifying sessions where I think a better lap could have come, but now it has. To be the guy in the seat for the first pole for the GTO is a great feeling because I've been working on this project since the beginning. Pontiac has put up a huge effort. Jan got the first win and I got the first pole. I think the car will be good tomorrow.

To tell you the truth, I'm surprised Honda paid so much to get Jenson out of his Williams deal because I personally think that if you give me the right time, I can certainly be as good, if not better. I'm sure every driver thinks that, but I certainly believe I can be as good.

There was a great field this weekend. I really gathered it all together today. I thought I performed well yesterday in the high jump, and then had a good pole vault and hurdles today.

We had good execution today. We had a real mindset to execute down in the red zone because last week people were making a big deal that in the red zone we had to settle for three points a couple of times. That was the mindset, to finish drives into the end zone. We did that today and that really was the difference.

I had some great defensive plays behind me. I've said it time and time again, Trot Nixon is about as underrated an outfielder defensively as you can get. People don't understand how good he is, especially at Wrigley with the Pesky Pole and everything else. Once again he came up with a great play today that will probably get overlooked.

I think for Chris to get within 0.6 of a second of pole is a great achievement, given what we have gone through this weekend so far. His position doesn't quite reflect what might have been as he had to deal with traffic on his fastest lap. Unfortunately, in race trim the gap between us and the faster runners - in terms of consistency - will be greater than it was in qualifying. This is down to a number of reasons that the team can't fix here at the track.

We passed the second-place car, and then ran away from him [late in the race]. So if you paid real close attention to what happened today -- well, I don't know if I can explain it -- but we'll be OK. We got some stuff figured out today that really helped the car. I can't wait for Indy.

Dale Earnhardt Jr

Last time, he took the lead earlier than what I wanted. Today I was expecting to make the lead a little bit later, but he kind of got on the muscle at the three-eighths pole. But he settled a lot better today than the last time.
