en I decided to use black-and-white for the film, because that is the image of adolescence to me. We see teen films all the time where the colors are very bright and always changing. But teens tend to look at things in very specific terms. They believe in things one way or the other, and they see themselves and the people around them one way or the other.

en We tend to want to do films about things we know nothing about. It allows us to fall in love with our subjects as we're making the film. And hopefully some of that love comes through in the film and translates to the audience.

en In light of a recent study that seems to indicate a direct correlation between alcohol advertising and increased teen drinking and another study showing the numbers of people, other than teen drivers, being killed in crashes involving teens, it's more important than ever before to make sure there is a dialogue with teens about issues that could impact their futures. Whether teens spend time at a bowling alley, a friend's house, a coffee shop, or online text-messaging, The Spot shows teens that it is up to them to make sure their 'spot' is filled with positive influences and not with harmful substances.

en They said that [producer] Merv Griffin likes her in bright colors. I think they took one black dress, but the rest of them were bright colors. And they were looking for elegant, very feminine looks. You know she's a perfect size 4/6. No alterations needed. She really has an amazing figure.

en Things are historically specific to the time, ... This is kind of a crisis time. People are paying $4 a gallon for gasoline. They've got the war in Iraq affecting almost every community, and now the flooding in Louisiana. Things like that get on our nerves. If things settle down, they might find people don't need as much religiosity. That's hard to predict.

en Polls find young blacks less likely to call racism America's No. 1 issue. A Time/CNN poll found 89 percent of black teens consider racism in their own lives to be "a small problem" or "not a problem at all."
