This is an exciting development for Johnson County. Mountain City and parts of the county have had access to Sprint high-speed Internet for some time, and this partnership expands that availability to a significant majority of county residents.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

I am so honored to have the City recognize us in this exciting partnership. It is especially rewarding to be able to offer our residents simple, convenient and free recycling services. I look forward to working with the City this Earth Day and in the future.

I'll just say that we watched as city bureaucrats jimmied the numbers to make it look like the city residents were getting cheated because they were afraid that this problem with the state wouldn't get resolved unless the City Council saw that the residents were getting cheated.

It's a place we use as a frontline to communicate with our residents. Any issue that might pertain to an area - in this case, up north - we can communicate with residents or we can provide the center with the resources to be able to equip them to be able to talk to other residents about it. Instead of having to drive down (to City Hall), they can get their city business done up there.

The county's concern is moving traffic, but the city and the residents and the businesses want a chance to enhance the community.

We need to ask the residents what they are in need of and fill that need. For too long the residents have not had a say in their city's development. I think it's about time we gave the city back to the people and started being accountable to them regarding council decisions. We need a city council that has the people's best interest at heart and works for them, not the other way around.

The performances of the different offices are on opposite ends of the spectrum. In Fresno County we have what seems to be a near abdication of their responsibilities, whereas in Alameda County we see an office committed to protecting all residents in the county.
