This is a tax that puts Maine businesses at a serious competitive disadvantage. We've simply got to get rid of this tax.

Complying with this legislation is costly for our business so to find out that a government funded-body is encouraging companies to ignore the law is appalling and puts us at a significant disadvantage to those companies simply because we are law abiding.

It's kind of neat to see. Maine in general has strong programs. To have five teams from Maine, there's gotta be a lot of pride. Every team is competitive.

Tex Tech is a global company that chose to grow its business in Maine and we appreciate their dedication to the state. Maine's businesses will continue to succeed on a global level because of the talent and hard work of our workforce.

There is not a lot of cooperation between members of the Maine team, ... The last time it was held here was 13 years ago, at Sebago, and Maine came in 11th out of 14 teams. Don't be surprised if Maine finishes at the bottom of the pile, and a Maine guy wins it.

For example, Ireland is extremely competitive in their financial incentives to attract businesses and they have some of the top universities in the world as well. This grant makes Kentucky competitive in attracting businesses on a global scale, which is what is needed if we want to build a knowledge-based economy.

This proposal would limit our ability to establish a competitive compensation package and that could place Sun at a competitive disadvantage in attracting and retaining top talent.

A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. I think the common elements first are that, basically, we are entering markets or in markets that are deregulating or have recently deregulated, and so they have become competitive, moving from monopoly franchise-type businesses to competitive, market-oriented businesses.

Certainly, I don't think it puts us at a (recruiting) disadvantage.

You give it up by not staying on top of it, growing it and by not being competitive, or you simply give up. We didn't lose the businesses. We gave them up. These people are willing to come in, bite the bullet and do whatever's necessary to get the business up to where it's successful. They understand the rewards for what they do.

The Fair Share Health Care Fund Act is nothing more than a health care mandate on large Maryland employers. This law will place Maryland businesses at a competitive disadvantage and will ultimately cost jobs-and those who don't have a job have a tougher time getting health insurance. Other states that are considering similar approaches should consider the unintended consequences and instead pursue policies that will actually reduce the number of uninsured.

What's striking is the near unanimity of many of the opinions and attitudes expressed by these businesses. The majority (55.4 percent) say they are better off now than a year ago, and an astonishing 84 percent of businesses -- and nearly 90 percent of San Francisco and Sacramento firms surveyed -- believe their businesses will be even better off a year from now. Their expectations of sales and revenue increases and anticipation that their individual businesses will do better paints a picture far more optimistic than we could have imagined. They simply are not letting anything get them down.

We are not throwing strikes. We walk way too many guys and that really puts us at a disadvantage.

We can't be put at a competitive disadvantage.
