Nationally, it is clear that some housing markets have moderated from the over-heated and, in some cases, speculative pace of growth of the past few years. Housing authorities have never been more broke. Funds for public housing were not keeping pace with demand, even before Katrina.

I have long believed that it would have been far more effective at this stage for FEMA to have given vouchers for housing and to assist people in finding private-sector housing. I think it still is a possibility.

Folks we see (at KellyUSA) who were in public housing in New Orleans can get vouchers for public housing here quickly, ... So far, we're finding that people are taking whatever is available and worrying about the rest later. They want to get back on their feet.

The ceiling has not been changed for years. Having to do this -- and it had to be done -- the Housing Authority did it the most fairly it could.

In those years, Oregon and Oregon State were trying to get bowl-eligible, have a winning record, crack the upper half (in Pac-10). Now, they're in the top half every year. They expect to go to bowls. They're looking at being nationally ranked.

The pace was such in the first half that we assumed we were going to struggle in the second half. We tried to take care of that through substitutions, but it's hard to do in soccer because then you begin compromising the rhythm of the game. We could see that. We could see that our pace and our work rate in the first half was so high. We were not only frustrating the opponents, I thought we were also being very stubborn in the middle of the field.

It's not that we're trying to fill the town with seniors. It's helping to balance our residential housing. Over the last five years, we've had a loss of seniors. As people retired and taxes increased for schools, they moved away. We've started to see an increase, but it's not keeping pace with a lot of family subdivisions going up.
