It was a little bit surprising. Under the circumstances, knowing what everybody else in the conference has returning and knowing that they know our situation, it is very interesting. Preseason polls, they only say so much. The proof is what happens after everyone plays 56 games.

It seems like a different feel. We have a lot more confidence. We come into games knowing we can put teams away. I think we were more last-second wins then. Now it's more of we're coming into games knowing we're going to win.

From top to bottom, this is the toughest non-conference schedule we've ever had. I expect two of our non-conference opponents, Oregon and LSU, to both be ranked in the top 10 of the preseason polls this fall.

I can't say I'm surprised, ... (Stefan) made some plays. Late in preseason games, if you're in his situation, that's what you have to do. That's all I ever played in for my first six or seven years in the League, and you've got to take advantage of it. You've got to run around and make some plays and that's what he did.

There's just so many things going through your head as a freshman knowing the plays, knowing when to cut, knowing what to do. It just got real interesting for sure. I was pretty much under the impression we were getting Reggie Bush. Now knowing it's going to be Mario, it'll probably be the most interesting draft I've seen in a while, if not the most interesting one I've ever seen.

He can trust me. He can keep giving me the ball toward the end of games, knowing I'm going to keep going strong and getting it done and making big plays.

Maybe your anxiety and nerves are different. Every year it seems we're on the brink and not knowing how many games we had to win or in '01 knowing we needed to win all of them to get in. It's a different feeling this year. There's the pressure that we think we're a pretty good basketball team and winning one of the two Big Ten championships is out there.

The pain comes from knowing that we have never been safe, and therefore will never be safe again. It comes from knowing we can never be so ignorant again. It comes from knowing we can never be children again. Losing innocence. Remembering heaven. That was the essence of hell.

This will be another test for us to execute the things we're working on in practice. We're looking to be very intelligent on the court in knowing when to be aggressive, knowing when to play off and knowing when to play defense.
