We have a tough ordspråk

We have a tough game with a very good New Mexico team on Sunday. If we had lost or tied tonight, I don't think we would have the same confidence going in.

I think we did a pretty good job as a team tonight. Especially after those kind of tough nights, the Seattle (loss on Sunday) and the Orlando game, even though we got a 'W,' it was frustrating in the end.

. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.

Nothing. I told 'O' the other day we certainly have not lost confidence in him. I wanted to make sure he hasn't lost confidence in himself, and he assured me he hadn't. Tonight he got some good looks, and he was able to knock them down.

We lost a tough game 1-0, had a blowout [win Tuesday]. Tonight I'm most proud of our team. This is the best game we played...Our guys grew up a little bit.

We needed this win. Can you imagine if we lost tonight, then lost to Peabody on Sunday and had a 5-game losing streak going into the tournament?

I'll have a lot of good memories. We played the best in the U.S. There was an All-Star at every position. It gave me confidence that I can pitch at this level. I thought that we would advance to the second round, but I think that we got caught up in the win over the U.S. and didn't show up for the Mexico game [Canada lost 9-1].

Our defense has had an edge already since Sunday about this game. I usually don't see that until Wednesday or Thursday. It isn't because we thought we lost to a team that wasn't a good team, we just felt that we didn't play our best.

We're not where we need to be in our team confidence. This was our second tough game of the year and we have lost them both (losing to top-ranked University of Southern Maine). Our foul shooting was terrible. We didn't do the little things to win, and I'm not sure that this team felt that they could go on a big run.

It was a pretty good game. We lost focus at the beginning of the game. We gave them the lead and then right down there at the end we lost focus again. Other than that I'm proud of the boys. We got back in it. We fought hard but I guess the better team tonight won.

Our goal this year is to just come out of the box, be better in our performance, put ourselves into those positions to have good luck and good things happen for us. Chemistry with the team is obviously really important. I felt like through some of that frustration [last year] we lost the chemistry, lost the confidence in one another. I know I lost confidence in what I was doing out there. It's just about building that back.

There's no room to get down and it's no time to be worried about this game. We're going to learn a few things from this game. We've just come off a really good streak, we lost to a good team tonight, and now we've got to regroup and get the momentum back.

It is tough, but we can't use that as an excuse for what happened tonight. Every team in the league has to do it. Our mind-set just wasn't right tonight and we didn't come out the right way. The whole team struggled tonight, especially at the beginning of the game.

I think that's what makes it so frustrating. You look at a game like tonight and you see how good we can look and then you say the only reason we lost tonight is because we beat ourselves. We let another team come back into it and we mentally kind of got shaken. I think that's something that's going to be the biggest thing going into the (Big East and NCAA) tournaments.
