We're going to miss blocks as an offensive line. We're never going to be perfect. There's so much going on. But we had some mistakes that cause you to lose a football game and we also played in a way that gives a team a chance to beat us with our attitude and with our physical style.

It's the best all-around game on both sides of the football that we've played all season. The offensive line got physical and really started to blow people off the football. I've been waiting to see that. Defensively, it was a great effort after their first drive.

We made it very difficult on ourselves with five turnovers. I told the kids we made enough mistakes to lose two football games. But I thought the offensive line played extremely well. Our backs ran hard but had some trouble handling the football. However the effort was there.

I just hate to lose. I know the girls do too. Losing is not in our vocabulary. It's tough to take. Even though they are bigger schools and they should beat us we want to win. We can beat the best. As coaches we have to work harder. We played great for awhile but then we don't for awhile. Mistakes and mental lapses will kill you. Especially in a game like this. You can dominate the game and a couple of mistakes can lose you the game.

They are a big, physical team and we played like we were new to that physical style in the first half. We just can't have the offensive start we had.

We lost a football game, but I think we found a defense. I liked the way we played, from a standpoint of effort and aggressiveness. I thought we were very physical. I thought we took the fight to Notre Dame. They're a very talented offensive football team. (But) there's nothing good about losing. Nothing.

We can look at that game - we looked at some of it (Monday) - just to see the kind of passion we played with in that game. Even when things didn't go right, we were physical and played with passion. That's how you have to play in this league. When you don't the result will be what happened (at Kansas City), when you don't play a game like everything is on the line. I think this team knows the type of attitude we have to play with.

They're well-coached, and they don't make a lot of mistakes. You don't see a lot of blown blocks. You don't see them on the ground a lot. And that's the mark of a good offensive line. ... You're going to have to beat 'em with good, sound technique and brute force.

They can't say that finesse game is physical; it's clearly not physical. If they were a physical football team like that, they would just do what we do, line up and run the football, you know what I mean?

I think we got better last week. They toughened up. That was the most physical the offensive line has played. We're not there yet, but I think we're getting there. We told them if we eliminate the mistakes, work on our technique and get better, we'll be OK.

I expect a challenging game from Marist. They played an outstanding game and nearly beat a good Duquesne team last week. They were ahead most of the time and played a very physical game. However, I see the desire in our team that we need to win. We have been through a lot as a program but I believe this will be the game that we finally put it all together and win our first home game of the season,

Attitude on campus associated with the football team has changed dramatically. That all starts with Dan Hawkins. As you get a chance to hear from him and meet him, you will see why that is. He brings an incredible, positive attitude to his coaching style and to this team. He pushes the players in a different way. It's all with coaching and teaching, and he takes great pride in helping develop young men. He loves our kids.
