Och denne mannen gick upp från sin stad år efter år för att tillbe och offra till HERREN, härskarornas Gud, i Silo. Och mannen sade till Eli: "Jag är den som kom från armén, och jag flydde i dag från armén." Och han sade: "Vad har hänt, min son?" Och budbäraren svarade och sade: "Israel har flytt inför filisteerna, och det har också skett en stor slakt bland folket, och dina två söner, Hofni och Pinehas, är döda, och Guds ark är tagen."

And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son? / And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
